EW & FP on the same computer - 4/3/2008 11:24:01
I seem to recall a post on this forum that there was a problem installing EW & FP on the same computer. Did I dream this? I could not find such a post in the Search. I am about to start learning EW and I want to make sure EW and my current system all like each other.

I'm very disappointed that they came out with a new version before I could install mine, but what can you do. Steph

I have both FP03 and EW running on the same computer without a problem. After installing EW long, long ago, I haven't really used FP03 much, but it does still work okay.

Thanks very much for the fast reply, ou812. "It is now time to start climbing the learning curve." MCD, I can relate. Good luck, Steph

I've got both running on 2 or 3 machines with no problem.

I have the new Beta EW 2, EW 1, and FrontPage 2003 installed, and all work fine. At first I tried to go back and forth between EW 1 and the new Beta EW 2, because EW 2 is so slow, but that didn't seem to work well on the same web site. I *think* I could continue to use both on separate web sites, but I didn't test that because I had no need to do so. I have quit using EW 1, but will leave it on my computer until EW 2 is released and I am sure it's going to work for me. I use FrontPage 2003 on a daily basis to collect articles for research (it's wonderful for that purpose), and often have both FP and EW open at the same time with no problem.

I have to convert my five websites. The biggest has 1800 plus pages, all with FP2003 included pages for the top, side and bottom menus and for a long list of copyright and trademark info. Thanks, Steph It is very slow to load in the first place, and pages load more slowly than EW 1 or FP, but it seems to work fast enough otherwise. Includes works really well, but you have to be really careful about pathnames, because EW 2 has an "unresolved issue" that causes it to sometimes rename files. See "Known Issues EW Beta". I use htm, not PHP Include Pages, and have had no trouble, once I figured it out. You can now insert Includes from the Insert Menu, just like Insert Picture. (you have to customize your Menu). If you tell me that FP always had that feature, I am going to bang my head on the floor. I have wasted probably hundreds of hours trying to get includes in the right place. HELP for EW 2 is much better than EW1 or FP. I can actually find what I need, unlike the previous versions. I'd recommend that you read the pertinent pages before you start... probably save yourself much head banging. They keep warning that Help isn't finished, but it works fine for me... I just keep in mind that it "might" be wrong, so if something doesn't seem right I don't worry about it.
