dzirkelb1, You may not need a second video card. Read this first: All laptops have an extended monitor jack, so all you need to do is plug in the second monitor. Most desktops do require a second-monitor card, which costs about $35. However, my last two Dell Desktops came with an OEM second monitor jack so I was in business right away after purchase of another monitor. For operation: I usually have my primary monitor in the left position and the second monitor to the right, but they can be set-up either way. With the desktop displayed on the primary monitor, right click the mouse in an empty desktop space, then: Left click on “Properties.” Left click on the far right tab labeled “Settings.” Left click on the number two monitor box. Left click on the check box at the bottom left that says “Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor.” Left click on “OK.” Your icons and start button will remain on the left monitor. When an application is opened, make sure the window is not maximized. In the top right corner of the window, you should see a minus sign, then a box and finally an “X.” If you want a particular application to appear on a different monitor, click in the title bar, which is the blue bar at top, and drag it to the other monitor.
