How do I make flash point to iFrames? - 4/7/2008 15:39:04
Hello,

I used Flashation Menu Builder to create a quick and simple flash menu. I have a left Table cell where the flash menu sits. I have a right Table cell designated as a iFrame (named tabiframe).

Flashation lets on set the following link parameters:

  • Jump to Url or Jump to Flash Frame
  • The URL input Area (put the URL here)
  • Frame [main , _blank or _self

I've tried putting in the iFrame name (tabiframe) I've tried all the default parms, but when clicking a button, it loads the choice into a new browser window.

I'm asking here, because, when I click in the Flashation Menu Builder Help, and one of the choices is Forums, it takes me here - odd.

I would like to set the menu to open pages in the iframe. How?

Thanks

I

See your other post for my reply. Don't use frames, they're old technology and they cause more problems than they solve.

I've given you two links, one of which explains about using includes. if you're using FrontPage you could also work with shared borders and have the same effect. Anything is better than frames.

Flashation brings you here because it is the brainchild of one of the admins.

That's an opinion and while I respect your right to it, it's just that - an opinion. On the 'net - everything is a problem and if you look at it, 99.99% of what's on the Internet is pure garbage and of the remaining 0.01%, 99.99% of that is useless. - MY opinion.

It would be nice, if more often than not, when viewing a response to anything, that there was the occasional answer, not a ridicule.

And I can give you a dozen or more links that explain the benfits of iFrames. But I know you wouldn't go there and I don't want to get into a peeing match over Frames or iFrames. I saw Frames when they were first introduced, Tables got the same argument, and all it did was waste bandwidth - still does.

It's link is gone.

Thanks anyway. I know you meant well.

Yes it's the opinion of a very experienced web designer who uses modern methods and semantic markup.

I don't see any ridicule in her post - just good advice. Obviously you are free to keep whatever methods you prefer but it would be more polite not to snap at experienced people who offer you their considered advice.

It never ceases to amaze me how many will dump in with a negative opinion intead of an answer. I didn't ask for opinons on Frames - see teh Subject. Did anyone read the Subject or did you just see it as your chance to dump on frames - and now Tables? It would be nice, like I said, if someone could answer the question, or not - - not use it as a soapbox. People could save a lot of bandwidth if when they are not answering a direct question - just kept their hands off the keyboard.

OK so no one has an answer - just cliqey opinions and criticizims. Thanks anyway.

We could have just ignored your post but an experienced designer thought she'd help.

Apparently you didn't appreciate that (good) advice - so... that's fine - just don't be so snappy about it. It's not polite. A "thanks, but no thanks" would have sufficed if you felt our opinions were contrary to yours rather than aggression.

have you got a url we can look (even with tables and frames in)?

have you named your iframe and are you sure you've targetted it properly from the menu system?

And like so many others you're happy to add more garbage?

I wasn't dumping on you, I was telling you the current thinking about Frames. My post in your other thread gave you links to lists of problems with Frames and solutions.

If you wish to ignore those and continue on your own merry path then please do but have fun with your problems.

Thanks D a v e. You're right on the beam - the named iframe had a typo in it. I renamed it to evilframe just for posterity sake and it worked! The Flashation-built menu now loads pages with Tables into the iFrame nicely. It is now quite efficient.
As for leaving a link - I don't think I want to risk the very expereinced out there that are trying to clean the world of evil to go a-hunting. Beleive it or not, the Flashation itself has a Help file that has a link to this place.

Cudos d a v e for leaving your opinions behind and helping instead.
