how to clean up my laptop? - 4/10/2008 9:01:14
My hp laptop seems to be slowing down with age (about a year old now). To start with, I would like to eliminate some of the programs that start when the computer is started up (not delete them but just don't start at start-up). I would like to know how to get rid of some of these startups but don't know how to do it. Any ideas on how to do that and some general comments on how to get it running and starting as fast as it did when it was new?

to turn of startup programs start --> run --> type in 'msconfig' --> click the 'startup' tab (the one on the end i think) and uncheck the programs you dont want to start on boot (i.e. quicktime, adobe...etc) if using vista - press windows + r --> type 'msconfig' --> click the 'startup' tab... you could also try defragging your hard drive
