Dynamically Adding A Form Field - 4/11/2008 12:46:28
I use the Spooky Login to collect membership information. It works very well for this purpose. I would like to add a feature and I need a little help.

I am using version 3.12.

I would like to be able to add a separate field for each family member. Currently, I use a custom memo field and allow the members to type their family names in the memo form field. However, it's hard to write sql query for this because I can't validate one name per line or make sure a comma separates each family name.

I thought I could add maybe five custom form fields, family1 through family5. Then create a drop down field that ask for the number of family members. Depending on the number of family members selected, That same number of family formfields would become available for inputing family names.

I'm comfortable with asp, but I would like some ideas if anyone has a suggestion on where to start.

It can be done, but it would be easier to keep that as a separate page rather than try to fit it into the login coding
eg - allow them to do that from the success page or a profile page. Adding an unknown number of records can be problematic though.

Normally I would consider using a join table containing the user ID of the main user and of each family member.
What if the family member also has a profile though?

I'm using SL (Spooky Login) for a couple of almost similar things. I don't use the original SL register form, I have made my own where I do registration in 2 steps, step 1 is for all SL needs (a lot of hidden fields), step 2 is another form adding stuff to another table. Between these two steps I have a simple script grabbing UserID from the Spooky_Users and use that for joining the two tables when needed. For future to come I have also a link to the step 2 form from their personal page so they can add items/ or family members........
