Hi I have made my web page 1050 px wide. Is this too much. I did this because most people have 17in screens Cheers

They may have 17 inch screens but there's simply no way of knowing how wide they have their browsers. Many many people don't maximise their browsers - particularly on wider screens. It's a gamble - you may well irritate a lot of people. If you absolutely have to have a wider fixed width site then go for around 980px wide so that it won't cause a scrollbar on a 1024px wide browser. Personally I now do mostly fluid sites so that they'll expand and contract with the browser from 760px upwards - constricted at the top end to around 1200px as much wider than that can cause the site to be difficult to read. If I have a site that doesn't have much content then I'll go for an elastic layout (using ems for widths of the design) so that it will expand and contract when people make the text bigger or smaller with a base width equal to the equivalent of 760px (so as not to cause a scrollbar on a 800px wide browser.
