Troubles with FPE on Linux server moved to MS server no... - 4/17/2008 4:24:06
I was hosted on a Linux server with FP extensions and had seven domains/websites developed in Frontpage. The hosting package I have included 5 storefront stores and two of my sites had e-stores. Of the seven Domain/websites, four had webmasters who maintained their sites using Frontpage. Now that my web hosting company no longer support FP extensions, I had to move my package to a MS hosting package on a MS platform with FP extensions. The first problem I noticed was that on the MS site, everyone had to use the same login/password to get to his/her domain to update and it gave them access to the root site as well as everyone else's domains, unlike on Linux server. I didn't like this but tech support said it's MS's fault and nothing they could do. The second thing I found out is that this new MS package did not include storefront shops and that the sites that had store would have to find a different e-commerce sw or start paying $50/month to use the e-shop site the hosting company offers for the MS server.

Most of the Domains I am hosting are free from me and are non-profit sites which I trained the webmaster to use FP to update their sites. It seems that I will have to buy Expressions and have all of the webmasters do likewise. Those that had e-stores will have to buy e-commerce packages also it seems. All of this is a hard pill to swallow both for me and the webmasters as non of them do this to make money or are full time web designers.

My question is, is there anything that can be done about the login/password issue on a MS server with FP extensions, is there a free e-commerce package that you can recommend that is easily installed to run on a MS server, and is there a way for these users to convert their FP websites to EW sites with little problems. Any help from you guys would be helpful, thanks.

If the host runs PHP then you could go for Cube Cart if it's a simple store or Zen Cart for something more complex which requires stock monitoring etc.

Both are Open Source and freely downloadable. They also have good support communities.

In that case try this one. I've never used it but a lot of people on here do and have good things to say about it.
