Displaying French characters - 4/17/2008 16:42:43
A project I am working on requires a french translation of the text. So I sent the client the html files, they translated all of the english text into french.

For example:

:)

When this displays on the web page, it looks like:

:)

I have declared the content type here:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

What am I missing here? Anyone ever worked with multi-language websites?

edit, forgot to add
I have declared the lang attributes too:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="fr" xml:lang="fr">

Looks like using ISO-8859-1 intead of utf-8 for the charset fixed the problem. Depending on how the page was saved, you will either need to use ISO-8859-1 or utf-8
