ok here's the deal. I have 3 frames ... A and B stay static while C changes when clicked on the links in frame A. But what I need is how to make the Flyer I made in word appear in Frame C when vistors are on the home page without making a link for it. Please help this is my first site i've created and it's not done yet, but you may go check it out at www.richsinc.com and i would greatly appreciate any feedback.

You want to link to it or you want it to appear? You can link to the file easily but making it appear isn't easy as Word is a word processor not a web language (event the save as html doesn't work properly). If you want to show them roughly what it looks like then you could show an image of the flyer but only if you don't have important information that you actually want to impart from it - i.e. if you just want to say this is what our flyers look like.

If you actually want them to be able to read the information on the flyer properly then you'll have to re-do the flyer's information in html for the web.

You can always tell sites where people have used word for the page itself - i.e you can't read it in any modern browser!!

I want it to appear on the site because it does have important information in it. I already did try to turn into a web page but like you said that didn't work. So I converted it to a pdf file and well that didn't work either. Please help... this is a site for my husbands company and the flyer is REALLY important.

If your word document doesn't have too much weird formating and photos, you could just copy and paste to notepad then copy from notepad and paste to your web page. DON'T copy and paste directly from word.

However, that said, all my clients use a PDF file for flyers. When a viewer clicks on the PDF link it opens in their browser and they can print it if they want.

you could just link to the word document for people to download or open (assuming they have word a suitable reader.) could we see the word document and see how complex it is?

Dave, I have found that when the Download/Open box appears it scares most unsophisticated computer users/viewers away. They just don't know what to do. It's OK if you have viewers that are savvy enough to handle it but I am finding that most do not know. They just throw their hands up and move on to another page or website.

really? still? well i guess so.
if it was my site i would recreate whatever is in the word doc as html and images, which is why i was interested in seeing the word doc (Angela if you can't post a link to the word doc then you can always email it to me at
gekkoweb[at]gmail.com (replace [at] with @ of course)

edit: oh yeah and you have to change the colour of this text to something more readable ;)

Angela, sorry but you said two things the immediately send me screaming up the walls. WORD and FRAMES.

Word you have seen the problems.

Why on earth are you using frames? You do know that people can't bookmark frames pages, they always end up back at the homepage, and there are myriads of other problems with them as well.

well i'm using Frames because that was the only way I could get the page to look the way my husband wants it. I was using tables with only html, but it wasn't working out. Now my husband can tell me what he wants and where he wants it and it goes with no arguements. [:)]

I was looking at CSS table formats, but still this was the most logical solution. If you have a better solution I'm all ears.

If you're using FrontPage then use shared borders. It allows you to have one heading, one menu and even one footer if you want and it appears on all pages.

If you're not using FP then includes do the same thing. CSS is something else entirely.

At the top of this page there's a link to tutorials. The FrontPage Tutorial
has instructions on using includes.
