sculpturedolls -> Can't make a Hot Spot (4/22/2008 13:17:30)

Hi there,

I'm using Dreamweaver 8 to make a new website.

For some reason I can't make a hot spot. I've only made one website before and just checked on those pages and was able to click on the hot spot tools and draw a hot spot.

Then I go to my new website and click on an image and then click on the hot spot tools and try to draw a hot spot on the picture- what happens is the picture tries to "drag and drop". That is the command that dreamweaver says is happening when I try to try to draw the hot spot. ???????

What went wrong???

Here is the Html code behind the photo I'm trying to draw the hot spot on:

<tr>
<td colspan="3"><img src="graphics-headers/skyfooter.jpg" alt="Sky Footer" width="800" height="45" /></td>
</tr>
<tr>

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as I don't know what I did in the code that's preventing me from drawing them.

Sincerely,

SD

Hi there,

I'm baffled....

One more thing that happened that is very strange:

My template that I made in order to make all of my pages- will not update any pages. ???

I made up all the pages (and did not detach them from the template). I haven't even done anything on the pages but make them off the template and save them.

I made a change on the template (set a couple words to link to pages) and then clicked save. The dialog came up asking if I wanted to update all these pages that are associated with the template. I say yes, update. It does it's thing but Update files "0", Files that couldn't be updated "0".

Then I go to the pages and nothing is changed on the pages but the template has the changes and is saved.

I'm wondering if something happened terribly wrong with the template and if it caused both problems herein mentioned.

All these things worked beautifully for me on the other website so I don't know where I went wrong. BTW- I'm just starting this website, so I can make changes now if something isn't right.

Thanks for any advice,

Sculpturedolls

not sure about the hotspot thing...

did you make a change in the template in a non-editable (locekd) region?

Thanks for responding. I appreciate any and all input. :-)

The changes were made on the template itself. I pretty well made the whole page editable. Went to each part of the table and made it editable.

Here's what's happening now:

After making changes on the template- I clicked update and found that some parts of it updated, i.e. the page property change to the link color. But what didn't update was the copyright footer where I changed the first letter to capilized. It's like it's choosing which part of the template to update.

Still can't make hot spots- it only drags the pic....

if the copyright footer is in an editable region then it won't update. can you check in the code and see if it is or not?

in DW CS3 if i click on an image and then go to the property inspector i can then select the hotspot tool i want, click it and then draw over the image. are you drawing over an image that is locked on the template or trying to make the hotspot in the .dwt itself?

Thanks David very much for responding and giving me some help. I went ahead and scrapped the template and started over as I could see that it would take me longer to figure out what went wrong then to make up a new one.

Made the new one up and all issues are resolved. Have no idea what went wrong but I'm glad it's working now.

Because of what you said, I now know that that I can't edit the template itself in editable regions. That makes sense because those areas could be altered in all the various pages and conflicts would arise. The copyright was in a div tag in the footer- the footer was editable but I don't know if the div was or not. I'm assuming it was and that's probably why the changes didn't update or save to the pages. Thanks for that!

Hot spots are working just fine now in my new template and pages based on that.

Sorry for the trouble but thanks for your time. I'm sure I'll have something else that will baffle me... well, hoping it'll all go well. :-)
