Help! Our website display page is different to our home... - 4/25/2008 0:17:23
Hi. Back in early March this year we have changed our homepage, by placing a greeting message for our visitors. However, the homepage was reversed to its original format after few days (March 13th). Since then our homepage shows the changes (http://www.cais-soas.com/home.htm) but not the display page (http://www.cais-soas.com). At first we thought is to do with cache and Google. However, Google advised us to contact the hosting company – and unfortunately our hosting company runs by a bunch of imbeciles who have no idea as how to resolve this problem. So how the page that we wish to be displayed when visitors go to our site to be the same as our http://www.cais-soas.com/home.htm? Any suggestion, would greatly appreciated. Kind Regards Jenni

You need to remove the index.htm file. Index.htm or index.html are the default homepages for all websites. If there's one there then that's what it'll show. Without an index file I'm pretty sure it'll show the home.htm - I think that's the next file name it'll look for but I always call my homepages index.html anyway. Might be easier just to rename your homepage index.htm.

Hi Many thanks for reply and info. You are absolutely right that we had ‘home.htm’ as well as ‘index.htm’, and I have deleted the latter one. However, after deleting index file I’ve checked but still problem persists. Do you think this could take while? In the meanwhile the hosting company asked to provide them with our FTP password – to solve the problem. Reagrds Jenni

Now it's showing a page with Welcome and a big pink box with HAPPY NORUZ TO ALL in it - is that the right page?

Not that's not the correct one - it should have looked like the ‘home.htm’ (http://www.cais-soas.com/home.htm) which doesn't exist anymore! I think it is do to with the hosting company, as I provided them with FTP password! J
