vickgould -> Photos don't appear where I put them. (4/25/2008 7:38:24)

I'm doing two websites. One, I took over for my church and one is for my business. In both of them, they look great when I do it in frontpage, but then the photos end up in the wrong place.

This is the church example: http://www.fbclinden.com/missions.html The photo under the text "2008 Missions Conference" looks centered in the boxin fp, and now it's off to the left. A friend with a different screen says hers is skewed worse than mine.

Also, on my business website (I haven't decided on a website name yet) there is a ton of dead space to the righ. Is that fixable? http://vickgould.dot5hosting.com/

Thanks for the help! I've been googling all sorts of things to try to get answers with no success.

I couldn't spot any <div align="center"> commands in your source code, so:

in FrontPage, right click the Mark of a Great Church photo then click Picture Properties. Under Layout select Middle from the drop-down box. Save, Republish.

I'm out of time so can't post now but, yes, this is fixable. Sure other OutFronters will help [;)]

Thanks! At first when I did it, it didn't want to work, but then I put spaces in front of the photo and seems ok now. It looks right on my screen now and I hope it looks right on everyone else's too.

You shouldn't have had to use spaces - a band aid approach. With that said, however, the graphic positioning looks fine in both IE & FF [:)]

Thanks a lot for your help.

If and when you have time, if you know how to kill my dead space on my other website (I did get my website name today), I would really appreciate that too. Or if it's too long and you know of some free online tutorial, that would be great too. The site is www.victoriasgould.com and each page has dead space to the right.

Thanks again!

incidentally your background file is huge! 1.75 Mb - you should optimise it more in a graphics editor - or if you need help you can email me the original file and i will do it for you (email it to gekkoweb[at]gmail.com)

Thanks - I emailed you the file. Next time what can I use to make it smaller? I have picassa2 and irfanview. Will any of those work?

d a v e -> RE: Photos don't appear where I put them. (4/27/2008 5:32:31)

well in irfanview i would use

file > save as

then choose
'show options dialog' at the bottom of the 'save picture as...' window
and choose some settings like the ones in my attached image.

unfortunately there's no preview so you'll have to experiment.

always use the original image to save as, BUT remember to save as a new file name like newimage3.jpg or similar so you have a copy of the original to go back to.

in picassa use file > export to folder 'use original size', and under image quality pick 'custom' adn move try the slider at 75 and go from there ;) (unfortunately again there is no preview so you'll have to try at say 80, 70 and 60 and pick the best balance of fileszie and compression.

maybe someone can recommend a free, simple image optimiser for saving jpegs with preview ? ;)
