**you must have a legal/legit serial number in order for this tool to work - this does not bypass the xp licensing system**
Microsoft released a program that allows you to change your XP Serial Number.
This can be found by going to:
1) http://www.microsoft.com/
2) Search for key tool on the right side
3) Click the 1st link called http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/pkuinstructions.aspx
4) Click XP on the right
5) Click the I accept box, then Download

If you ever lose your XP cd, and have a valid XP Product Key, you may need to use this program.
I recently had to borrow a friend's XP cd in order to reinstall my OS. The license key that I have was not accepted during the install, so I was basically stuck. I used another license key in order to finish installing XP, however, I wanted my computer to still use the legal license that I have.
XP released a tool that surprisingly worked perfectly!
