NEWBIE admin_main issues - 4/26/2008 22:11:33
Hi all -

I'm definitely a newbie at web development, so please hold my hand and lead me carefully.....

I am using Network Solutions (N.S.) as my host and after uploading the files to the root directory, I was unable to access the admin_main.asp file. So I called N.S. tech support and it was recommended I create a folder within the root directory for the Spooky Login files. Now I can get into the admin_main.asp via the subdirectory, but it's telling me the database is not read/write but in my file manager in my N.S. I see the read/write properties are enabled. (I can send a screen shot if necessary)

[removed]

I modified the db_conn.asp to point to the file where I uploaded the database (db) and did not change the file name of the Access database included with the Spooky files.

Do I need to go through and modify scripts to reflect the directory locations? If so, please tell me which ones and the script changes needed.

Thanks all!!

Miz Lora

Can you email me the db_conn.asp file? it seems the admin section is trying to connect to SQL server but you are using access?

Can you try this code?
(Replace all the code you have - this is a simplified version)

<%
DIM sDSN
CONST db_connVersion = 3.07
CONST DatabaseFolder = "\db\spooky_login2000.mdb"
sDSN ="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & Server.Mappath(DatabaseFolder)
CONST strDbase = ""
%>

Is the database in a folder called "db" off the root of the web?

Okay - replaced the code in my db_conn file; no dice - I get the same messages in the read/write error sections. But it is now showing the database folder where it wasn't before.

Yes - db is in the root directory; it's a default folder I received in my configuration instructions from N.S.

Just e-mailed you a screen shot of the file manager - hope it helps!

And the database does indeed reside within that folder?
Normally if it is, then you may get a write error only. A read / write normally indicates its not in that folder or permissions are WAY to strict

With your host, Im assuming that /db/ is the recommended folder?
If so, are you able to create a DSN with your control panel that points to the database?

Also, do you use frontpage at all to edit your site?

Using Expression Web to edit.

In my database config within my host's control panel, I used the default database filename (spooky_login2000.mdb)
