Photoshop Elements ? - 4/29/2008 17:05:48
I purchased Photoshop Elements this week. So far I have found it to be okay but not great. I accidentally deleted Photo Fade Horizontal icon in the Effects section in Edit view. Does anyone know how to get it back?

Yup, Photoshop Elements 6 is a might buggy. Have you tried to just close the program and restart it? I still am experiencing random Adobe ad pop ups. Another bug, when I try to go to Edit>> Preferences >> Performance it LOCKS up my computer with a stupid error message asking for an integer between 1 and 50. Have to use the Ctrl Alt Del to get out of that one. Also note that Photoshop Elements 6 absolutely hates 800 res monitors with parts of the elements display screen cut off with many functions out of view and no way to get to them.

Effects section Quickest way, stick the cd back in the machine and either repair or reinstall. I'm on a different machine to my install of pse so I can't play with it. I think you are right jaybee. Since I only installed Monday I'll do that. PE does a couple of nice things but it is slow and I would not recommend V6 to anyone.

ORIGINAL: Tailslide I'm still on PE 4 and I love it! It does everything I need and it's inexpensive. I hear good things NOW (duh) about 4 after I purchase 6. V6 is not terrible but it is slow. I may like it better after I've used it a little more. At the moment I cannot even find a place to customize the look. In my opinion PSP is a all-around better product. Of course I am more used to using it.

A repair did not not do the trick. I had to reinstall the program.

I'll try some web resizing in version 6 and post back as soon as I can. Yes, MCD, version 6 is painfully slow on my computer also.

OK, I tried the "Save for Web" feature of PE6 and could not get it to work. The screen is supposed to show two windows, a picture of the current photo and a picture of the resized photo. BOTH windows were pink in color ( have no idea what that pink color indicates) and no photo appeared in either window.

Save for the Web works for me. It does seem to do a great job. I just hate that you cannot create a toolbar shortcut for it like you can in PSP.

Photoshop Elements Revisited -- OK, yesterday I installed PE on the wife's computer and PE worked super. Loaded faster, everything worked. I experimented with the automatic panorama feature and boy is that a joy to use. I used 4 jpg photos that were in no particular order but PE seemed to know how to stitch them together perfectly with no visible band where the photos were joined. The save for web feature worked this time too. And there is a switch in the preferences section that turns off the pop-up ads but you have to give your email address (for spam mail?) in order to turn it off. That part needs to be fixed by Adobe. So...Conclusion: It would not run on my 5 year old Dell. Just not powerful enough I suppose and not enough memory. but ran perfectly on the wife's $400 Dell that was purchased last year from Walmart.

Now that I have been using PE 6 for a few weeks I like it even with the few quirks. It does not repair photos as well as PSP 11 but PE is better saving images and photos for the web. PE also is much easier than PSP when using text and gradients. PE is also outstanding when it comes to recoloring objects. I really have only two complaints right now. PE 6 is slow opening an image and it does not allow you to customize a toolbar. It along with PSP make a good graphics pair.
