Backup remote to remote Nav structure - 4/30/2008 1:07:00
HI

I have two separate hosts setup. I have made a small trial website with FP nav structure on one. I wanted to back it up on hte other host. When I use "remote website" and publish from one to the other, the Navigation and the shared borders dont publish and I ll have to redo the all the nav and shared borders. My question is, How do I backup on FrontPage on one remote server exactly to another remote server so that they are identical (ie have the navs and sharedborder info backup too)

thank you

Larry M.

In order for the entire site to render properly you should use the FrontPage Publish command (>>File >>Publish Site). In your situation, simply Publish your local files to host "A" then again to host "B".

If you are a FP2003 user, you can keep subsequent file updates in step for both hosts using the Publish Synchronize feature.

Thanks Larry,

I did that before I post this thread. It does not publish the nav or the shared borders. It simply carries the files over. I published form host a to host by using the file / publish option and "remote website" logon. It carried all the files but when I looked at the newly published site, the nav was not carried over. Thanks for your response. Also I do not have access to all the vti_ **** folders to try and find the NAv files. Is there a solution? What am I doing wrong. Thanks

IF the site renders properly in local browser view, then >>File >>Publish Site >> delete all files on the host server (this won't mess up anything) and republish this time selecting "All pages, overwriting pages already on destination".

Actually, I figured it out. I had to uninstall the front page extensions and reinstall them. Then , a simple publish from remote site to the other did the trick and all nav and shared borders were published correctly.

I am happy that I found this forum anyways. Its an awsome resource for people that work with microsoft faulty ( yet pretty good) programms. I guess expression is the future of frontpage and I will have many problems whose solutions are in this forum. Thanks to all the admins and owners of this website.
