template problem - 5/9/2008 19:16:51
I'm running dreamweaver cs3 and using treemenu magic by project 7 (I bought this years ago, when dreamweaver MX was out - it hasn't been updated - but I have an earlier version of our website up currently that has this menu system, and is updated via template - I needed to re-style the page and also wanted to work from CS3 since the WYSIWYG actually works with css somewhat). I'm not an experienced css or html or javascript program. I need help!

I have tried most everything. If I make a template from the working file with the menu system in it, where the treemenu magic is working on my remote, then the menu system doesn't show up when I preview the page.

I've tried saying yes and no to updating links during the template creation process. I've tried copying extra copies of tree magic's javascript and css files into every concievable path where dreamweaver might think to look, but I'm not very clear on relative versus absolute etc., and what dreamweaver does with templates. When I save the template as an html file in the root folder, it works, but seems to not update anymore (I guess it ceases to be connected to the template?.

I have been working on a home page for a medical site for a week now, and would hate to need to start from scratch, and then have no guarantee that the template and menu would work together. There should be a way to get the template to work with the menu system, no?

Here is the site online, have not been able to get a template linked to a version like this where the menu works.

http://www.ucmg.net/

and this version which is template based, links to js seem okay but menu doesn't work:

http://www.ucmg.net/index_using_template_TMM.htm

When I preview the template, the menu does work, but not in the doc based on it.

Interesting that when I make a change in the title of a menu item on the template, which is coded in simple coding and should be detected as a change on the page I would think, and save it, and click yes update, the "update" finishes without any update occurring according to the log.... Then I make another change, and this time highlight one of the 2 pages, then DW decides to update both pages. Frustrating.

Original:

Updating C:\ucmg\
Done.
files examined: 1
files updated: 0
files which could not be updated: 0
total time: (0:00:00)

NOTE: project 7 actually has an MX help pdf for dw template use, but it didn't help despite my doing what they say.
