How to convert jpeg to ai? - 5/20/2008 11:25:38
Hi i need to change this image from a jpeg type file to ai (adobe illustrator) so if anyone knows a programme or would be kind enough to do it for me i would be more than grateful as it is quite urgent!

Thanks

.ai is an Encapsulated PostScript file. PSP wil do a save as .ai

You might also try Photoshop Elements.

why do you need to convert it? what is it and who it for?
a jpeg is already rasterised (i.e. itīs a bitmap, not vector) which would be the basis of requiring a native .ai file. anyone with illustrator can import your jpeg and use it there in illustrator

I need it done so the image would be able to be photoshopped, as apparently at the moment whilst it is a jpeg it is unable to be photoshopped in the way I want it to be.

well itīs still going to be a flattened bitmap - converting it to ai wonīt help in anyway. is it a logo? and what needs to be done to it photoshop?

it is a logo and the background needs to be changed and the main colours of the logo need to be changed

then you'll have to recreate it with the pen tool as vector in photoshop or illustrator. can you post a link to the logo so we can see how complicated it is?

thatīs going to be tough going.

looks like you have the following options:

- contact the original designer and ask them for a vector version
- make a logo with a similar idea with whatever clipart you have or can buy, and see if you can identify the logo
- try and draw it yourself using pen tool and masks: i wouldnīt like to think how long that might take -especially as the original is so small, but if you had a larger version and you are adept at that kind of thing then go for it!
