new pc: dual boot vista and linux - 5/23/2008 17:10:43
i´m getting a new pc next week (my old one is terminally ill) and i want to dual boot with vista premium and ubuntu. afaik as it´s an HP it comes with the system disks on a hidden partition that i assume lets me set the pc from the beginning. i envisaged partitioning the 500gb drive into 3-4 parts, 1 for ubuntu (around 50gb total split between swap (2gb), grub (50mb) and main (the remaining) and then the other 3 for vista like 1. system and prog. files 2. multimedia crap 3. er, other stuff is it best to partition via vista or ubuntu live cd or.... ? any advice is most welcome as it´s easier to do it with some forethought rather than hindsight :) *** addition *** ps i want to make sure i don´t accidentally over write the hidden partition with the installation files on (why can´t they just give a disk??!) i´ll make backups of those first anyway
