FrontPage Extensions blew up - 5/27/2008 15:11:23
Well, at least as far as I am concerned they did. We host over 1000 FrontPage web sites and out of nowhere, I started getting frantic tickets from customers who could not log into Frontpage anymore. Naturally, I tried to test and sure enough, there were problems. When view the FP administration, here is a sample of what what I am seeing:

www.aaaaaa.com http://www.www.aaaaaa.com 4.0.2.2717 Upgrade
www.bbbbbb.org http://www.iceclt.org 4.0.2.2717 Upgrade
www.ccccccc.com Extend
www.dddddd.com Extend
www.eeeeeee.com http://www.eeeeeee.com 4.0.2.2717 Upgrade
www.ffffffffff.com Extend
www.ggggggg.com http://www.ggggggg.com 4.0.2.2717 Upgrade

Here is what it looked like before the problem started:

www.aaaaaa.com http://www.www.aaaaaa.com 5.0.2.6790 Administration
www.bbbbbb.org http://www.iceclt.org 5.0.2.6790 Administration
www.ccccccc.com Extend
www.dddddd.com Extend
www.eeeeeee.com http://www.eeeeeee.com 5.0.2.6790 Administration
www.ffffffffff.com Extend
www.ggggggg.com http://www.ggggggg.com 5.0.2.6790 Administration

As you can see, all of my sites that do have FP ext installed are forcing me to "upgrade". I do not see the "Administration" links anymore nor can my customers logged in. I have no idea what has happened. I have tried the following:
- reboot
- uninstall / reinstall fp ext
- praying

Can anyone shed any light on this? This is beyond bizarre!!!

Wow,

Speculation at best....but something appears top have set the flag on the extensions version to an older version.

Does upgrading the extensions on a site take care of the problem?

If it was on a smaller scale I wuld suggest: Try creating a new folder, moving the content into the folder, changing the default directory in IIS to the new folder, and then reinstalling the extensions, but that isn't a very good solution in your case.

Have you installed or upgraded anything else recently?

Are these your own servers or are you reselling? Is it possible the host made changes?

Are you Windows or Unix?
