Raqx -> Jumping divs in Dreamweaver (5/30/2008 13:18:57)

Hi guys,

I am new to dreamweaver and I am trying to create a web page, using absolute divs. But I'm not sure how to go about it. The divs I have at the moment constantly jump around. If I have a div inside another (with an image) that image then hides behind the first div. The I have put text in divs and linked them to other pages, only to find when I reopen dreamweaver that there are all over my browser and not in the position i put them in. (I am not suing the AP divs as I was told these jump around alot??)

This is my process, are you able to tell me what im doing wrong..?

I attach my style sheet(to all pages) and I write click on my style sheet
select New... then give it a name (e, .Heading) i give the div its size and
properties, and select 'absolute' from the 'type' drop down menu in under
the 'positioning' tab. I then select the I select the div tool and (left option
not AP div's) and i select the div i just created (eg, .heading) from the class
drop down menu (when the insert div tag dialog box comes up).

(could the jumping have anything thing to do with me backing up to different USBS. eg. Closing dreaweaver and copying the folder onto another USB. (by the way the images are not linked either)

And also, do I attach the same style sheet to every page. Or does it have to be a new style sheet for each..

Sorry- confused [:o]. Alot to learn!

Raqx

I wouldn't use absolute positioning - it's too tricky to get right and too fragile.

Use floats instead.

Attach the same stylesheet to every page.

Thankyou. So float divs, are they just the second from the right on the tool bar. Or does this mean I can just chnaged the divs to 'float' using the drop down menu? (in the div properties dialog box)

Sorry - I don't use DW - I'm sure someone will confirm the correct method in DW for you soon.
