Would like to accept Credit Cards on 1/2 of site - 12/11/2001 7:21:01
I would like to accept credit card purchases from my site but only for select items. I really do not think I need SHOPPING CHART but just a way to verify credit card purchases so I get the money. A supplier I have that will be supplying me small leather goods, computer bags and many other items that I can sell on my site said it was okay for me to give them my cutomer's credit card number and they run it thru their system but of course with the upcharge to the customer for my commission. But I would rather do the credit card from my end because it will show it was paid to JEM and not the suppliers name. Any ideas for inexpensive start up. I know I can do an order form with Front Page so it emails me the form for an order but just concerned about credit cards. Thanks Mark

Word of caution, you said "it was okay for me to give them my cutomer's credit card number and they run it thru their system but of course with the upcharge to the customer for my commission." You can get into some trouble and so can the other business. The other company could lose their merchant account for this, you could be put on a "Black ball list" for such activity. I know people do it, but that doesn't make it right. You can also not charge people for them using a Credit Card, this may vary by state but in Ca. you don't want that to get out. Sign up with Paypal, Bill Point, and 2checkout, all of these are free they link to your business checking account where the money is deposited. John A. Smitty - I understand your concern but in this case the price that I would be advertising on the web site would be the price I would be selling it to the customer and the price that would go thru the credit card machine. Only the supplier's name would appear on the charge information. After looking at the options that are avialable for little money I may decide to use Paypal etc. Only my markup is very little to stay competititve so it may take most of what I would make in return to process the charge. This needs a little more thinking. My problem is that the supplier will only accept orders that are minimum $300 to any shipping location. This would be okay for a small retail store but for a consumer this would be slightly high. If I am shipping to a retail store I need to have a low markup on my cost from the supplier in order to offer these products at an incentive for the store to buy so they can resell and at good margin. If I am selling to a consume then I need to have a larger margin but lower than what they can pay for it in any store which would be their incentive to buy from my site. My problem is that if it is a consumer and they only want a wallet or a PDA organizer this will only come to about $50 sale and I am then $250 off my minimun to ship to one location. This is a matter of negotiating better terms with the supplier. After all is said the price I am charging my customer is not a price advertised on the web site plus a processing fee for the credit card. The price on the web site will be the price they pay. So therefore it is not a fee for the customer using a credit card. I feel I would have better protection if I use Paypal etc only I don't know if my margins will reflect profit after my charges are paid to Paypal etc. I am working on very tight margins. Thanks for your thoughts Mark
