RickP -> Blocked email problem (6/16/2008 11:39:32)

Recently I received a returned email from a Hotmail account telling me there was "a problem with either my computer or server having a virus or... whatever".

The upshot is that email accounts that are on my host's server are all being blocked by Hotmail as it has marked the server as being a spam sender. I, personally do not send mass mailings of any sort and I'm confident that none of the people I provide email addresses to do not send spam. However, the hosting is of course a shared account so I have no way of telling what else might happen on that server. The hosts assure me that they believe the server is not being used as the source of spam and, in effect, say that if Hotmail decides to block that IP address there is nothing much they can do about it!

Help... what do I do? Move all of my sites/email accounts to a new host? Is there any other solution? Would a new host be just as likely to have the same problem at any time? can anyone recommend a UK-based multi-site host?

All input appreciated.

DNS Stuff has a tool that you can check to see what blacklists your mail server is on. And usually most of the blacklist providers will offer you a way to check your mail server. For example Spamhaus offers a way for you to check IPs and remove them as well. Depending on the blacklist provider, the company might require the owner of the IP to contact them for removal.

And some companies will block an entire Class C which is another problem entirely

Thanks Corey

The problem is now resolved - somehow - and looking up the IP at the site you suggest shows no signs of problems [:D]
