I've worked out most of the bugs but I want some feedback before I add more content, does anyone care to critique my website? www.customcontentcompany.com I had some issues with the forms but now they are functional...

I am planning to add a resources section with informative articles and information related to web content, articles, SEO, and marketing. I am also planning on adding another page to describe some special project and package deals. Let me know what you think.

What the heck have you got on that site? This is the first time I've ever seen this message and I've been running BitDefender for 6 years

[edit]It also crashed Firefox. If you want someone to take a look then I suggest you get rid of anything that isn't HTML/CSS on there.

Wow, there is no adult content of any kind on the site, it is for a freelance writer/content company. I have no idea why a parental control would stop it from opening

Whatever it was is now OK. Possibly a hosting issue.

First off, as it's for a content writer, make sure your spelling is correct.

There are plenty of people out there who'll say it's rubbish, demand their money back and then use the content anyway. [&o]

This site is a bit plain but if that's the effect you're after then great.

You have an XHTML Doctype but the code on the home page alone is throwing out 30 errors. For such a simple page it shouldn't be so invalid.

You have an unprotected email address in the Contact page so tell them to prepare for big time spam and your forms seem to have no security and they may well get used to send out spam in your client's name.

You'll never get indexed by search engines with the key words: Custom Content. Instead use the industry accepted term for your line of work which is: Copywriting. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copywriting.

Spelling, grammar, context and presentation errors are anathema to individuals in your line of work - you've must be able, minimally, to talk the talk.

Were I looking for a copywriter and somehow found your site (in its present form) I'd click-out in a New York second.

Are you kidding? I've seen Larry use fancy words before!!!

Tailslide -> RE: Please critique this beginner's site! (6/29/2008 2:52:28)

Nah - being ex military he'll be using Unnecessary Acronyms (UAs) rather than Long Fancy Words (LFWs).

Damn! I hate TLAs! (three letter acronyms) [:D]

You've got a big space down the left of the page below your menu that looks like it's where that menu column should continue down to the footer. With the header and footer extending all the way to the left of the menu, it looks like that column should continue all the way down. Looks odd the way it is now.

Aviation phonetics are an unequivocal means of communication. 3 examples are:

Tower this is Navy Fox Four Niner Niner Two - Interrogative Whiskey Tango Foxtrot your last. Over.

Navy Fox Four Niner Niner Two Squawking 303 on Guard. Fuel Transer Tango Uniform, say again Tango Uniform. Will attempt Romeo Tango Bravo.

Navy Fox Four Niner Niner Two Squawking 303 on Guard is declaring an emergency. Power is Delta Sierra. Going Loud Handle at Ten Zero Two Zulu.

Tailslide -> RE: Please critique this beginner's site! (6/29/2008 16:28:37)

Ah but that's US Navy speak not acutal aviation stuff!! But surely if you're on Guard you don't need to tell them that you're on Guard - 'cos they'd know? Aren't squawks 4 digit numbers? Or is that just left to us civilians?

But none of that is a TLA - TLAs are lots of fun!

IFF (Identification, Friend or Foe) code was, years ago, assigned by air traffic controllers as 3 digits in Naval Carrier "Blue Water" Aviation. You are correct, "Squawking" is now assigned as 4 digits for military and civilian aviaiton.

Yeh, Guard is Guard - goes out to everyone with a headset on. Mentioned here in the context as being synonymous with a possible or actual inflight emergency. Usually assigned to button seven with buttons one - six for ... never mind, you know all about that stuff [X(]

Tailslide:

Good observation. As a point of clarification, examples one and three are fictionalized. Example one is something you'd like to say to the tower weenies but don't. Example three uses the Air Force term, Loud Handle, not the Navy term for ejection.

Example two, however, centers on actual experience (negative feed during mid-air refuelling). My RTB (return to base) was actually a recovery at Danang, not the Constellation, since I was Bingo fuel. I was never on Guard - always controlled by Danang GCA account minimums and the fact I had declared an emergency.

All examples were for the purpose of contrasting phonetics versus acronyms which are used most effectively between MBA's and in the technical community [&:]

Tailslide -> RE: Please critique this beginner's site! (7/2/2008 13:15:31)

Thanks for the clarification Larry - Not heard the phrase Loud Handle before but in context it's pretty easy to work out - Martin Baker letdown.

You have the same problem with Google that I have, and we both use a master.dwt. So it is either the result of using a master.dwt or something else our sites have in common. See "Google does not see my key words" in the Search Engine Optimization section.
http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/m-391942/tm.htm

Do a search on google for custom content company and you are nowhere, these words are plentify on your web page. Try doing a search for custom content company customcontentcompany. This seems to be the only way google will find you, as by having your domain name in the search. Of course nobody would search using your domain name, as they do not know you exist.

Once you do the google search for custom content company customcontentcompany. Click on the cache. The words, custom, content and company, should all be highlighted on google’s cache page. They are not. Google does not see those words properly.

Do the same on a Yahoo search - no problem. Yahoo sees all those words

If anyone is using dwt’s could you check to see if you have the same problem? Otherwise it is a problem that this site and mine have in common, that might be due to another reason.
