Dustine -> My host can't help, ATT can't help...I really need help! (6/26/2008 2:19:35)

Hi all,

I've been using Microsoft 2000 successfully for years. I open Front Page, choose file/open web, double click the web I want to open in the list that pops up and once it loads I go to work.

I finished up last night at 2 AM...went to bed, and this morning couldn't open a single website. I spent a good hour on the phone with my webhosts, hosting.com, and then another hour on web chat with ATT. Web Host (hosting.com) blames ATT, ATT says it's either my webhost or my computer.

The fact that one of the sites that I access on a regular basis is on a totally different server then my sites and I can't pull it into Front Page leads me to believe it's not my webhost.

That leaves the fault with either ATT's connection or my computer.

Whatever the fault, I can't access any of my sites for updating and it's extreamly important that I do. I have been contacted by Google that one of my sites has been put on a 30 day suspension for "hidden keywords". When I joined adsense in 2004 I thought I'd removed any "hidden text" but evidentially I missed some.

I need to access my sites and search them all again for hidden text and get rid of it all before anymore of my sites get penalized. My sites sure chose a rotten time to quit working! I can't get into them at all!

My son in law brought his laptop buy when he got home from work, and his computer can access my sites, allowing me to find and correct the on the site Google sited before he had to leave. But I've still five sites that I have to go through and make sure they are clean.

Can anyone help give me any idea why my sites might not be pulling into my Front Page? The Error messages I got when I tried to pull them in are:

"Could not find a web server at 'www.beautifulbellavista.com' on port 80. Please check to make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly. If you are sure that everything is correct the web server may be temporarily out of service."

"Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server."

Any Help Would Be Appreciated

As you have managed to use this site it would seem that the problem is not with your isp and I can see your site so it's not with your host, that leaves your pc.

Before you start reformatting etc. look at FP. You say that you use "Microsoft 2000", by that do you mean Frontpage 2000? If so, that is way old so I am not too sure if you can do a "Detect and repair" (from the Help menu) on it. Anyway have a look for that option, you might have to look in the Help files to find it. It might be that you just have to reset the url of your site for publishing, sometimes FP forgets it.

If after that it still doesn't work then it's probably the extensions at fault on the server (despite what your host has said [;)]). This link shows you how to check if you have working extensions, although it refers to Verio, the principle is the same. If you don't get a list of your files then the extensions need to be reinstalled and applied to your site. This is done by your host, unless you can do that through a control panel - all hosting accounts are different.

I had a similar problem just last night and today. I couldn't upload my site, and couldn't view my site. I went back and forth with the hosting company, and they gave me a lot of things to try. I am copying and pasting their suggestions for you.

Your site is perfectly accessible. We have uploaded a snapshot of your
site.
They are available at:

http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dczbjdsd_213cx2wtwd9

Please try to view your sites using any of the following :

1) http://surfola.com
3) http://anonymouse.ws

These are proxy sites and they bypass your ISP's DNS and try to access
your
site. If you can view your site using any of these, then the problem may be
on your ISP's part. Please contact them to check if there are any
outages on
their network.

You can also try to view the status of your site by giving the following
URL:

http://alertra.com/

This site will show the status of your site.

If you are still having problems in accessing your updated pages, the
problem could be your browser showing old cached pages or caching at
your ISP. To confirm this, please do the following :

1) Try accessing your site from different browsers like Opera or Netscape

2) Try accessing your site from different computers like your friend's
or neighbour's .. using different ISP.

3) Also, download this free ping plotter tracing tool at :
http://lowesthosting.com/downloads/pngplt_1.exe

and enter your domain into the window. It will create a view of the
path and hops from your local computer to our server. If any hops show
* or stop then that will show you which isp between you and our server
is failed.

You should perform this test when you have problem in connecting to the
server.

Let us know how it goes.

(SueZQ again) I tried everything - nothing worked. So, I went to the ATT website and downloaded the desktop help. I was reluctant to do this, but I followed each direction, next, direction, next, etc., finishing with a reboot. It worked! I have set my preferences to receive an email when and if you reply. Since I just did this today, and have ATT (formerly bellsouth) also, maybe maybe it will help you too. Good luck!
