Absolute positioning of graphic? - 6/29/2008 11:04:36
Hi,

Could anyone help me out with this one please? It's all to do with centering a page and absolutely positioning a graphic.

How do I keep the absolute positioning of the "Jenny" logo at the top of the page at whoisjenny.org while at the same time centering the whole website - I have tried adding a wrapper around the whole page and "absolutely" styling the image but it all comes out different in IE - as usual!

The centering of the page in an additional wrapper is not the hard part for me, it is the fixed positioning of the logo "relative" to the wrapper's left margin.

Thanks. I appreciate it.

Do you really need to use absolute positioning? It's tricky to get right and usually unecessary- you're usually better off relying on the normal flow of the page or floats.

I can't check your page out properly as I'm not on my pc - but if you've got the whole thing positioned absolutely then you need to ensure that whatever div the ap'd item is in has position:relative otherwise the item will be positioned relative to the viewport. Then just centre the layout as per normal using margin: 0 auto;

The solution was to make the wrapper position:relative and the logo div within the wrapper as position:absolute.

It works like a charm now: whoisjenny.org

Thank you...
