Downloading - 7/3/2008 0:56:21
I feel like an idiot to ask this but,

How to i make it so people can download file off my website, i search google but it just floods with sites which offer you to upload something to them.
Ive moved my file into my website and made the text (the name of which people click on to download it) link to the file, but it tries to open it up and it cant identify it, i want to make it so it offers for them to download it instead, how can i make it so people download off my website?

Thanks in advance.

Your file must be located in the FrontPage (your site) root directory then published (or FTP'd) in ZIP format in order for visitors to download it when they click on the appropriate hyperlink.

It's very straightforward.

Your file can be a .doc, .pdf, .gif etc or you can zip the file (download a copy of winzip)

You put the file in the root directory of you web site - the same place as your index.html file or, if you're going to have a lot of these, set up a folder in your site called files or downloads or something and stick them in there.

In FP, on your page, type something like DOWNLOAD FILE A.
Highlight it, and choose insert>hyperlink from the toolbar. Choose the file and you get a link on the page to that file.

Publish and FP should upload the file and the changed page with the link.

When people click on the link they'll get a download box.

www.leesce.com/downloads
Try either of the links, the problem is now that even though i put it in the leesce public_html folder it asks for my account and password then after that it lets you download it, why would it ask that if the file is in public_html?

Thanks

EDIT: I think i fixed it, would anyone mind telling me if it works? i have mine auto use my account and password for things like that and maybe its only me.
