Server not available on port 21 - 7/7/2008 12:24:54
I am new to website creation and frontpage. A friend helped me set up my website on my new Vista laptop. At her house we were able to publish the site and it worked fine. When i went home and tried to publish from there, i get an error that the server is not available on port 21. We both have comcast and are going through a netgear router. I took the laptop to my sister's and she has comcast too and I was able to publish from there too. What can i do to get access from home?
Any help is appreciated, i called comcast but they were NO help at all!
Oh and we set up for FTP in the properties.
Thanks!

Port 21 is a server FTP connection which can have security and communication flaws. See http://www.grc.com/port_21.htm for a further explanation.

In any case, the best way (the only way in my opinion) to transfer files to the host server is to use the HTTP FrontPage Publish commands which are (with your site open in FrontPage): >>File >>Publish Site. If prompted enter http://www.yoursite.com then username/password. Once connected to the host click on the "Publish Web Site" button which is located in the lower right hand corner.

Welcome to OutFront!

Thanks, I will give it a try that way.
