ncriptide -> Cannot connect to server (7/8/2008 19:54:29)

Guys and gals, I'm sorry in advance for such a stupid beginner question.

I'm just trying to learn dynamic web development using Dreamweaver CS3 and I'm starting the book, The Essential Guide To Dreamweaver CS3 with CSS, Ajax, and PHP by David Powers.

I can't get past the first stupid lesson.

I have defined a new site in Dreamweaver and I'm using my web site at http://www.reggiebyrum.com to put the files.

In my site I have a folder called egdwcs3 and that is my site root. In Dreamweaver I have as the http address in local info set up as: http://reggiebyrum.com/public_html/egdwcs3/

In Remote info I have:

FTP host: reggiebyrum.com
Host directory: /public_html/egdwcs3/
Login: (my login)
Password: (my password)

In Testing Server I have:
Server Model: PHP MySQL
Access: FTP
FTP host: reggiebyrum.com
Host Directory: /public_html/egdwcs3/
Login: (my login)
Password: (my password)
URL Prefix: http://reggiebyrum.com/public_html/egdwcs3/

When I try to upload the file, effects.html I get the message that says, "This will change your files on the remote server" or something to that effect. Then it goes through the motions of uploading the files.

However when I preview in a browser, I get:

Not Found

The requested URL /public_html/egdwcs3/effects.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I ftp'd into via Fetch and saw the file as so: /public_html/egdwcs3/effects.html

So I know it's there.

I know I've overlooked something stupid . . . don't be too hard on me and tell me what I did wrong, pleeeeese!

The only stupid questions are those that are never asked.

And it's a simple change :)

In Dreamweaver site settings, remove /public_html/egdwcs3/ from your URL prefix.

That should solve the problem.

Thanks, Giomanach! We're up and I appreciate the help!
