d a v e -> skate site for a friend (7/13/2008 18:18:36)

http://pp.kpnet.fi/prescott/janne/

this is just a personal site for my mate and his mates, just about skateboarding and stuff - not really any content yet but comments are appreciated on the design and load times, and anything else. btw the wallpaper is from a photo of my friend, Janne', house

caveat: this is pretty much intended for a few friends and the friends to have a look at so take it as read that they have broadband, and a decent browser version.

thanks

dave
p.s. i'm hoping to add a flash mp3 player (possbily one i can customise) so that the music (made by one of the skaters) can be turned on and off (it will be set to off when the page loads of course)

I like it but it's not terribly skateboardy is it? I was expecting to see people doing daring stuff in mid air. Shows how much I know.

As far as music, go get Wimpy player and download the skin maker. You can set up players with backgrounds and all sorts.

well it's too look a bit different - it's only 3-4 people and for a few people to look at so, no, it's not particularly skateboardy ;)
wimpy player looks good! just hope the php works on http://www.freehyperspace.com/ as it says it should...

EDIT : seems you have to pay!!! :(

jaybee -> RE: skate site for a friend (7/14/2008 13:40:26)

Yes but it's not expensive and once you have it you can use it over and over.

The only other one I'd use is Swish Jukebox but you have to pay for that too and I like Wimpy better.

I really like the look and feel. Like walking into a dorm room or attic bedroom.

Hey, D A V E..
Hate the "mystery meat" navigation links but since it's for a small group it won't matter much...once the visual iconography is established it's intuitive, though...I like it overall but agree with the look and feel comments...I expected more grunge and less grandpa's attic..

jaybee - not sure i want to spend a quarter of my budget on that :) i'm looking at this instead
http://flash-mp3-player.net/players/

Rich - thanks, my friend Janne lives in a kind of attic bedroom (the one in the photo) ;)

Tex (nice to see over here from over there - frontpagetalk forum - ) yeah i agree but it's nice to let users explore (and i did add some links at the bottom;)

it's not just a skateboard site as it has travel and music things, hence the bit of a different feel otherwise i would have gone with the more apt grungey feel ;)

These players work well and are free
Premiumbeat

Thanks Peter, those are nice for a quick simple player.

I use Wimpy as you can design pretty much anything. I'm doing one site at the moment where it's going to look like a 60s juke box. Hours of endless fun. [:D]
