Is EW a bust? - 7/15/2008 7:07:54
I have been using EW for a couple of months now and I like it. I have noticed that very few questions about EW are posted here and so far there are very few tutorials for EW. Is this program going to be a bust?

I don't use EW so this is an outsiders view - but possibly it falls between two stools?

It seems to me that it tries to bridge the gap between beginners' WYSIWYG packages like FP and the more expensive Dreamweaver but seems to be harder to use for the beginners whilst many pros probably still avoid it.

I think your reasoning is sound as usual Tailside. It probably is a "tweener." I have little trouble with EW and I like it. I am using EW1 and I would like it better if I had more ASP.NET controls. I know version 2 adds PHP which should help but I still don't hear or see a rush to stores and Amazon looking for a copy. Am I stuck with a dud? Am I wasting time using it? It seems to write clean code but I will never be an ASP.NET expert.

Unless your working in a big dev environment I don't see the advantage of using dot.net. Most of us here are small operations and PHP and MySql seem to fit the bill for everything I do outside of the big dev environment I work in sometimes.

Version 2, if PHP all works OK, should be a very nice tool for the Pro sole trader. I expect that the number of users will increase as word gets around.

Version 1 has too many glitches for the CSS/PHP crowd and has got a bad name. Give it time.

I plan to keep using it jaybee because I like the layout and I'm starting to get a good grasp of the ASP.NET controls. I know version 2 has PHP and I wonder what PHP controls it has. Does anyone know?

BTW - I never use the CSS controls in EW but when working in a section I like the fact your divs and ids are shown in the header of the page. It keeps us old folks from forgetting what section we are working on.

I don't care what PHP controls it has, I'm just happy that it supposedly doesn't mess with the code and actually manages to save it as UTF8 without the BOM.
