image search results not to page - 8/10/2008 4:12:40
All of my images that come up on an image search using a search engine say they can not display the original page the image was on. Only displays the image. Most images are in an image folder in front page and then inserted to pages I want the images on. Most searched image results will take one to the page that the image is displayed on. Only a few others I know of have this problem and are also perplexed about it. Must be a simple mistake. Thanks in advance if anyone can give me any help with this. Am using front page 2003

Thanks for the reply Run a Google image search and the results show a thumbnail with the text "see full-size image" and below it is "Below is the image in its original context on the page:" which is a link to the website page the image is displayed on. My images show "Sorry, we couldn't find http://mysite Not publsihing my url as it has advertising on it. May be against company policy. My images seem to be set up as other sites are. Stored in a /images folder and hyperlinked to from the image on my web page. Others with the same problem have been given advice to create an image index. How and why that would work I don't understand. I am linking the on page image to a full size image but that seems normal. Hope that better explains.

I see that a lot of folks have the image url right on the page that the photo is on. I always add the photo file to an image folder and then insert image to the page. Is that the wrong way to do it? Should I change the url thumbnail on the page from page/images.JPG to page.JPG? Add the image file right to the page instead of to the image folder?

The only way this could possibly work without risking FrontPage loosing track, is to paste the image to the images subdirectory through Explore/My Documents/My Site with the program closed. The foolproof way: Use the Insert/Picture/From File commands, then browse for the image (can be anywhere on your local drives), then Save as Images/mypicture.jpg (gif).

Yes, and if you happen to have FP open when you are doing this you may have to hit F5 to refresh FP directories.

That is excatly the way I do it. Now, if I remember correctly, when I once made a one page website with FP editor the image file made a page within the image folder that linked back to the home page. From my research it seems many are doing something like this with their image folders. I see Google image search results that say"below is the image in on the image page in it's original context." NOT! It often shows the home page of the website not the page the image is actually on. When I follow others who have had my problem, one of the solutions is to create an index page for the image folder. I think I now understand that logic as the page in the image folder has the same name as the home page of the website. Any bells ringing or is it just my head in it's desperation. Am getting ready to redo the over 200 images on my site. Thanks for the replys and input. Much appreciated.

My business need is the same as most. Increase traffic to your site. Yes, my images often show up on an image search for a popular geographical location as well as many other highly searched words. As mentioned I have more than 200 images. This "back and forth" is about why Google and Yahoo do not return an image search in the most common way. Whether it be a front page image path or whatever, I would like to know. I have spent many hours with others having the same problem as well trying to help them and myself to understand why this happens. One person said it was solved (Google forum) by adding an image map to the image folder. Never did explain the details of the fix. So, I am sure that at least a good number of people use some sort of image mapping. Was wondering if that is a widely used standard.

I posted to front page help as my sites not created with front page do not have the problem. Am more than comortable with SEO. Some of my images are advertising and would probably be considered improperly encouraging ad clicks if I posted my url. What I have found is that the sites with many images in the top listings use an or several image directories or pages. The pages I would think are named the same as the page the image is actually on only in an image folder. Will try something similar since I have had many look at my images before I started advertising. For now, the bulk of my images are being redone with photo galleries (not front page) that include a link back to my home page or whatever page the images are on. Will at least give the option to image viewers which is the method another with the problem used. Nope, no porn or H.C. on my sites. Thanks for the replies.
