Change Auto Number to User Selected - 8/17/2008 17:08:29
I have a database that uses the Auto Numbered integer of the Record # as the Primary Key and an ID that I have many tables linked to. I need to change it from an Auto Number type field to one where I can input the number myself. My Database Wizard may have to re-do my add/edit/delete interface. Please let me know if you have any ideas. I've tried just changing it in the Access database from autonumber to number, but that won't let me edit the form in the page editor. Thanks, Tim

I've looked at this post more than once and I have to ask if it might not be easier to just add another field and use that as your "manual" id field? I'd suggest against getting rid of auto-number fields for the primary reason that they ensure a completely unique identifyer for that record. I have done many projects with a different range of "id numbers" that don't correspond with the auto-generated ID numbers. Hope it helps.
