New TK Theme - 9/1/2008 12:01:59
OK, heres the deal. I'm into the "tech" look of my sites and I understand we have those here who dont like that. To each his own I guess. hehe

I'm redesigning my site w/ this here: http://www.themekings.com/10TEMPLATE.htm

Just wanted feedback from the "EXPERTS" thus far.

Template is unfinished. Still have a few things to design.

Thanks in advance!

It's OK. I'd use it on certain sites. You have at least used CSS to build it although you currently have a lot of styles still in the page. I'd advise trying to keep them all in an external sheet as it's less confusing when things aren't going right. Inline styles override Internal styles and they override External styles. It can be a pain trying to work out what's where and which takes precendence.

I find it hard to read the gray (#666666) on the dark gray background. Black is better, not by much though.

That looks a lot more modern.

Still tables though you naughty person!

I agree with Grizz - make your text black to make it easier to read.

Yes, I feel I have just won the Superbowl!!!!

I'll play w/ the text colors to see what I can do there.

I'm still reading/learning how to create a Style Sheet w/o using tables. You WILL see me do this in the near future. Thx fellows! I truly was looking to score a C or a B w/ my new theme. I think I got a B- hehe. TY!

The typical viewer's eye is going to have difficulty with center justified paragraphs. Experiment with left justified.

Also, your font, Book Antiqua, won't display on some viewer machines - experiment with Arial or Verdana 10 point which conform to design standards.

Lastly, to set-off each paragraph, Bold the first few words. e.g. I'm Todd Swift, Owner & Designer for ThemeKings looks and draws viewer attention better than I'm Todd Swift, Owner & Designer for ThemeKings.

good point - i forget to say that in my post ;)

Larry surely you're not advocating the use of print measures (points) for the visual styles?? or do you mean the percentage/ems equivalent of 10 point on most browsers??

Your paragraph is overlapping the left hand side of the container. Paragraphs (and every item actually) has it's own default margin etc and of course these are different in different browsers.

What I do is add a "CSS reset" which basically zeros most of these so you've got a level playing field - then add back in to individual items so something like this:

(at the beginning of the stylesheet)

* {padding: 0;	margin: 0;}

That's the most basic model and there are better, resets out there that are longer but more useful - have a look here for a selection: http://perishablepress.com/press/2007/10/23/a-killer-collection-of-global-css-reset-styles/

Then you add it back in:

p {margin-left: 2em;}

For example

So it will look like this:

<style type="text/css">
* {
padding: 0;
margin: 0;
}
p {margin-left: 2em;}

and so on...................

Yeah - have the reset thingy first in your stylesheet and then have rules that over-rule that as required further down.
