FTP software - 9/18/2008 4:35:39
Hi all

For reasons I won't bore you with I'm getting irritated with my current FTP software and I'm considering switching to another programme.

Before I actually start looking, does anyone know if there are any OS FTP programmes that would take all the account information from your current FTP and transfer them - sort of like browsers do with bookmarks - can't face entering dozens of site account details into a new package!

I get on well with FireFTP - It integrates as a FireFox add On...

Doesn't suck up all those client sites of yours tho' Helena :)

I use FileZilla - total loveliness! If your current FTP client can export the account information in XML format, you may be able to import it into FileZilla from what I've read. I know you can import from previous versions of FileZilla, but whether it'd work from a different app, I'm not sure.

One 'feature' that I - professionally - would look for and, shudder, consider paying for with FTP Software is automatic scheduled file copies - aka backups.

This most useful feature could be (depending on data size) immensely helpful and a huge cost savings for anyone concerned with 'offsite backups'.

I know that Ipswich's WS_FTP Pro has this feature and I have used it succesfully in the past for quite large sites with Video and Sound files (after all, it's only the first file copy/backup that's the big time gobbling one).

I'm not sure what my point is here or whether this ramble is relevant to the topic but, I know I'm getting close to my 100th post!!

:)
