converting quicktime .mov to format for burning to dvd via windows dvd maker - what a pain in the a**

why the heck do digi camera manufacturers pcik quicktime as a format for video???!

i've found one program (pazera movtoavi )that converts mov to various formats (avi, div x etc) but the sound is messed up with all the formats when i play back in divx player or windows media player. i just want to burn a dvd that my dad can play in his dvd player with the videos of my boys from my digi camera (olympus u700). can't believe it's this tricky!

any suggestions, preferably for free solutions. (it's annoying that many 'free' solutions are free trials when googled...)

Free conversion tool which I have used to convert wmv to swf:
http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html
Online conversion and free - I have not used this one:
http://media-convert.com/convert/

I have used Super also and it seems to work. There are forums out their that will tell you exactly what parameters to set to get the best results using Super. I have received Super start up errors with Vista Home Premium but it will still render correctly.
