Realtime synchronization tool - 11/12/2008 9:26:22
On my laptop I need to keep my files locally, as I commonly work offline. However, I have a network drive where I should keep my files backed up. I have used a backup tool (Karen's Replicator, karenware.com) that I like. However, it only runs on a schedule.
What would be a tool that would keep my files backed up to the network drive in near real time?

SyncBack does it. They have a free version and a paid version. I use the free version and I believe it does what you want.

Thank you! The free version of SyncBack does exactly what I need. I've been running it for a couple of days now. The only issue I have is that it really drags down my laptop's performance during the backup, but I can live with it.

But yesterday's sync was hardly noticiable. Previously, I do recall generating a few really large files (10+gb) each day, which is rare for me. Yesterday was normal usage. The large files may have been the cause of the slowdown. I'll watch it for the next few days. If needed, I can check their forums &/or perhaps their paid version offers some sort of throttling.
But thanks again. This is just what I needed.
