shopping cart abandonment rates - 1/23/2009 14:41:41
I've been hearing that using a hosted shopping cart can lose you a sizable % of sales over a locally hosted cart. Anyone have any experience with this? Regards, Scotty

Anecdotal is all I can find also...I've been looking for some hard stats, however the big players e.g. hosted shopping carts, aren't about to spend the effort on a survey if they're expecting bad news. Too bad they can't figure a way to keep the entire process on the local site...until after the 'Thankyou' page...then a redirect sends the information to the hosted cart. Regards, Scotty

Thanks; I think I'll contact our shopping cart provider and see if there is a method to contact the 'abandoners of shopping carts' with a call to action of some sort. Regards, Scotty

I recently moved a client from 3rd party to their own ssl/cart and contrary to what I thought would happen - there was no measurable difference in sales. Again, like TWD experience, this is anecdotal. Take from it what you will. My gut still tells me that it *should* make a difference and maybe it does on those large orders or lost partnership opportunities. Or maybe it just depends on the industry. Whenever possible I will always opt for the local cart.

Then there is the case where the cart is on the local site but the paypal or google gateway takes the buyer to another page outside the local web for money processing. That scares some buyers also.
