Paragraph format - 1/28/2009 22:54:09
I have what I think is a very simple question.

I want to make text wrap around a picture. I type a paragraph and either insert a picture or drag it into the paragraph and it will only allow one line of type beside the picture. For example, if the picture is 3 inches tall and the lines of text 1 inch tall, then I would want to have 3 lines of text beside the picture. I'm using FP 2000

How do I do this?

Thanks for the fast response.

I suppose I should have added, how do I do it using the tools in FP2000? I don't understand html thats why I use a program like Front Page.

Sorry--FP is a ten year old discontinued program.
I was one of the Microsoft MVP's who provided input to the first Expression Web replacement software for Front Page-you might take a look at upgrading to that product. However, you still need to learn CSS and html to build your own site. Since Front Page 2000 writes deprecated code and relies on Front Page extensions we don't recommend it's use at all. You might want to take a look at writing this type of simple code if you really want to make your own web site. If you want to go "codeless" then we suggest you download WordPress and then upload it to your web site. Using this software you can build a website using your browser yet still have it on your own dot com hosted site.

Right click image, chose Picture Properties then experiment with the commands Wrapping Style, Alignment, Horizontal Spacing and Vertical Spacing until the desired effect is obtained.

Thanks guys, I found it. After looking thru the help section, one more time, I found the right words to ask and it gave me this,

In Page view, select the positioned element or position box.
Note Positioning settings are applied to the element that is selected (the element that is displayed with handles). Therefore, if a regular page element is selected, the positioning settings you specify will be applied to it, in effect positioning that element.

On the Format menu, click Position.
Under Positioning style, specify how you want the page element to be positioned.
Under Wrapping style, specify how you want text and other page elements to wrap around the element.

10 years using FP and I finally learned word wrapping. This may be an indicator why learning html just aint for me.

Once again, Thank you both.

Andy

Yes, this will work up to a point, but starting with the Picture Properties command seems to offer more possibilities for ultimate image/text control.

Glad you've been able to work this out to your satisfaction :)

Thanks Larry,

I did try what you said but I just didn't have anything about wrapping as an option.

After I right click the image a window opens with three tabs, General, Video and Appearance. If I click on the appearance tab I do have options for horizontal and vertical spacing but nothing about wrapping styles. Playing with those values didn't affect the text. Perhaps your method came in a latter version.

Thanks again,
Andy

I'm a FrontPage 2003 user and the "Wrapping Style" (None, Left, Right) appears on my version under the default Appearance tab immediately above the Layout fields. Sounds like there is a difference in the early versus later versions.

Check again and if the Wrapping Style option isn't available under Picture Properties, then certainly use the Format/Position commands.
