pagefile.sys - 2/1/2009 4:08:17
I know I need a pagefile.sys but want to move it to a new location.

my dedicated server (Windows 2003) has been partitioned as C: 14GB D: 232GB & I have additional drive E: of 250GB (which i use solely for backups)

my RAM is 3GB & pagefile.sys set to 2042 - 4096MB. I've read that i can move the location of this file, ideally to my D: drive. I can amend the size in Control Panel > System > Advanced etc but it doesn't allow for a lcoation of the file to be set. My D drive also has a pagefile.sys file too. Surely only one is required (C & D are the same physical drive) ? so do i delete the C: drive one leaving the only one pointing to D ?

Then it needs to be set so that on rebooting C doesn't fire up again.

Help would be very much appreciated here - Thanks.

I don't have 03 available to take a look, but you should be able to change locations. Take a look at this page and see if it helps: http://www.petri.co.il/pagefile_optimization.htm

Much M$ documentation recommends that you maintain a swap file on the main drive. You can however, set up a second swap file on a different drive or partition. To achieve this:

right click on "My Computer" --> Properties
goto tab Advanced
Click section "Advanced"
Click button "Performance"
Click tab "Advanced"
Click button "Change" in section Virtual Memory

If your drives are already set up then they will appear in the list of drives, and you can set up a second (or primary) swap drive here...
