Jcap (Captcha Validation Javascript) - 2/3/2009 16:06:27
Hi Guys,

I need some coding help with my attempt to integrate this javascript for Captcha form validation with a FrontPage form.

I was testing a spam prevention code java script (Jcap), which I put on the bottom of a copy of this registration page, requiring the user to enter a code from a distorted image of the word, displayed in a box. If the code isn't entered correctly, the person registering sees an error message. This, of course, prevent bots and non-people from spamming the form. The page that I am using to test the java script is:
Seminar Online Registration Form.

If you can help solve the problem I am having, I would use this java script on all of my clients' FrontPage forms. The forms are configured to bring up a "custom" confirmation page that shows the person registering what they have entered, and also has a link that they must click on to go to step 2 in the registration process, which is to Pay By Credit Card. The problem that I am encountering with the java script is that if the person enters the code word, incorrectly, it still takes him to the "custom" confirmation page. If I remove the form configuration to use a "custom" confirmation page, and the person enters the code word incorrectly, it gives him an error message and he cannot complete the registration. This is how the java script is supposed to work.

However, if he enters the code correctly, he sees the "generic" FrontPage confirmation page, and is given the option to return to the form. The "generic" confirmation form however, doesn't have the link to go to step 2, Pay By Credit Card. I can think of some alternatives, but they are not as good as being able to have the "custom" conformation page with the link to step 2. If anyone want to, please take a look at the above "test" page and form, with the java script in it, and see if you have any suggestions for me. I would be very grateful!:)

Be aware that that JS Captcha does not work if the user has JS turned off. Which I do, when surfing.

Yes I agree with Don - apart from the fact that they're really inaccessible, they're too easy to bypass.

Go for a server-side solution that asks a question instead - e.g. "Is fire hot or cold?"

I've instituted this with PHP on my own form and haven't had a single form spam arrive since.

I find it interesting a JavaScript is available for captcha. I was thinking spambots don't have JS turned on at all and it wouldn't block any of them. Is that not true?

Anyway, I'm with the simple question method and use it on many sites too (ice hot or cold) with great success.
