Sub Webs Revisited - 2/16/2009 19:04:44
I've read what I can find here. But it doesn't seem to apply to my situation. I have a functioning site at what I'll call Original Works. But this site, according to my hosting company should be at what I'll call Prices here. I cannot publish via FrontPage, although it's the program I use to create a site. I must FTP my work. This is my problem: I can't find a way to get the images onto the pages at "Prices". In my FTP program WS_FTP Pro on the right pane I had /artprice.tracyfineart.com/artprice where my images folder was along with the page files. I simply copied and pasted all of it to /artprice.tracyfineart.com and now I have an identical site where it should be, but without the images. The fully functioning site at http://artprice.tracyfineart.com/artprice/ is in My Documents\My Webs\artprice. But obviously I can't upload the images from there to http://artprice.tracyfineart.com/. I see no way to get these images to http://artprice.tracyfineart.com/ I have no web for that site in My Documents\My Webs because it would have to have a name, or would it? Can I import all my pages and the image folder into an empty web? Doesn't look like it because even that would have to have a name. A solution to this would be much appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this.

This is my problem: I can't find a way to get the images onto the pages at "Prices" If by "pages" you mean they need to be displayed on the main web in the same manner as the subweb, then copy/paste the applicable images from the subweb to a separate images folder (images2) at the root of the web on the main site then rebuild/modify applicable pages using the Insert/Picture/From File command from the images2 folder followed by save/FTP.

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but what is the value of moving images from the subweb to the main web without their being hyperlinked in the main web? Thanks Larry M., I have two identical subwebs. One I can work with in FrontPage, but it's not a subweb on my server. I would like to find a way to "move", i.e. insert the missing images into the subweb on the server because in all other respects that subweb is fully functional with the added advantage that the form I have on that one actually works properly. This is what my server wrote in answer to this question: quote:
No, you won't be able to create a subdomain called artprice.tracyfineart.com/artprice. Why don't you just upload the files into artprice.tracyfineart.com/ instead of artprice.tracyfineart.com/artprice/ ?? Which is just what I did--but to repeat--I cannot find a way to get the pictures in their places. All I see is the usual empty box with an "x" in the upper left corner. My apologies for the confusion. If you're confused I understand. This is driving me crazy. Robert

Is it the carnation.png image you are not seeing? If so then you need to make sure it is in the images folder in the subdomain you created. In this subdomain: artprice.tracyfineart.com I also get a error message when trying to display that image with FF. Maybe that image is corrupt?

Look at http://artprice.tracyfineart.com/ The images that are .jpg do show. including the banner and the links image on the left. carnation.png doesn't. Click on "Biography" and the .jpg image shows. All the other images are .png and none of them show. I've changed the carnation.png to carnation.jpg. and uploaded it to the server. Still it won't display. Still, looks like we're getting somewhere. Thanks for your insight, Robert

Yes, that's the only image on the biography.htm page. What I meant was that all the images on pages from the links on the Home page are .png files and were not showing. I'm working on it and now have the images on the portraits.htm and still_lifes.htm displaying. Very complicated and frustrating, but if successful when I'm finished I'll try to explain how I did it.

carnation.png is showing up now. What did you do differently? You know some of those png images may be corrupt. What software are you using to create them. Also they are a tad too large. Dialup users will not wait for 500kb photos to load.

Dialup users will not wait for 500kb photos to load. It would take me a volumn to explain how I got all the images up and everything working. But I might try after a rest. How can a .png image be corrupt? (this is a serious question. I didn't think a .png could get corrupted.) I use Photoshop to create them. And to create them larger than I normally would but want the viewer to see a larger than normal image. I know most of my audience, and suspect most if not all have high speed internet and will be happy to wait the little extra even given my images are so large.
