Remote Desktop Recommendation - 2/20/2009 13:34:02
Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive remote desktop service, so i can work from home?

For some reason, I can only access my work computer when i acually bring my laptop to work and plug it into the same router. I can't access it from home.

I just thought it would be easier to pay for an inexpensive service now and again.

thank you!:)

Look into this free service offered by Microsoft at: http://workspace.officelive.com/. Microsoft Office Live Workspace offers:

Access Files From Anywhere (with internet access). View documents from almost any computer with a Web browser. No more flash drives-files are there when and where you need them. Password-protected document sharing; you control who views and edits. Simplified online collaboration; everyone works from the same documents. Work with programs you know. Save over 1,000 Microsoft Office documents in one online place.Manage documents in one convenient place. Open and save files from familiar programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Save ANY file (not folder) type (except .exe) including graphics, FrontPage, Passwords Plus, Quicken, Palm Desktop, etc. Synchronize contact, task, and event lists with Outlook

Access your documents from almost anywhere (Can be any file type). Save over 1,000 Microsoft Office documents in one online place. Open and save directly from Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Control who sees and edits files; password-protected sharing.

Work Space Office Live requires installation of Microsoft Silverlight and the program has many limitations - can't upload folders (only files) and file size limitation 30mb among them.

If you need to work on MS files, this may be the answer :)

For accessing your work computer, is it in a workgroup? Have you asked tech support if you are allowed to access the work computer from an unknown computer? They might have it set up so only specific computers can access their network.

Ah, Corey! You hit the nail on the head. Since we're a small business, i kinda am tech support. So I was wondering if there were any changes i could make. Otherwise, i'll loosen the purse strings and have our tech lady pay us a visit.

(and i did add this computer to the workgroup when i brought it to work)

Thank you!:)

I use Log Me In all the time. It has never let me down, and it's free!

Bobby, I could not find a free version on their website.

If you Google Log Me In you can get a 2005 free version from some other website. Is that the one you are referring to?
