Overwrite Problems: FP to EW? - 2/22/2009 10:07:36
I've been moving my site from a FP03 template to an EW template. I've made sure that all my file names are the same in the revised version. When I publish should all my files overwrite the existing files? Are there typical problems people have when publishing? Thanks.

If the file names are exactly the same it will overwrite the old files. You may get a dialog box asking if it's OK to overwrite. EW has a publish feature. Use it. It will keep track of your page changes like FP did. But you must have META data enabled in EW.

The biggest problem switching from FP to EW is the extensions. If you have bots that required FP extensions then most of them will not work with EW. Some will. The include bot will still still work for instance.

By the way, when you went from FP web to EW web did you do a File > Open site in EW? Assuming you had a working copy on your hard drive located in your My Webs folder. That is the easiest way to go from FP web to a EW web.

To move from FP to EW I copied my FP site and moved it to to a different computer that only has EW (no FP). Then I opened my old site in EW, Next I copied text, changed font colors, reinserted images (previously resized in PS) and cleaned up the code so that it meets EW standards. The new site in EW uses a totally different template that was designed to be used in EW.
