Expression reformats CSS shorthand - 3/3/2009 7:31:52
I'm getting increasingly frustrated with a behaviour in EXPRESSION WEB, which I cannot explain and which I don't seem to be alone with: "Expression Web reformats stylesheet" (see March 16 entry)...

EXPRESSION WEB keeps editing my valid CSS whenever I combine multiple selectors with a comma and pulls them apart into individual selectors, even though their style is identical. The problem is exactly the same as described by Corrie in the blog. I have not yet detected a particular pattern, but it drives me up the walls.

I wish there was a way of simply switching off any automated edits / corrections etc. by EW, or simply let it highlight incorrect code, rather than reformat it automatically.

I also get constantly ask to save my entire list of different style sheets when saving an html page - even though I have not even touched most of them in that session. That's confusing. And even though it's possible that it's purely down to something I do wrong, I cannot seem to find the option / preferences to change this default behaviour.

Any help, hint or hollas much appreciated.

This is a stab in the dark, but have you tried using different CSS schemas in TOOLS > PAGE EDITOR OPTIONS > AUTHORING?

Otherwise, you might just want to right click on your style sheet, select "OPEN WITH" and "NOTEPAD."

I think Notpad is way less frustrating than EW.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have been fiddling with the CSS settings like mad without success.

There are other things that came up in the process, i.e. that a constant <span lang="..."> is added to each and every bit of typed text if the default computer language is different from the declared language of the html header. $%^&*)(*&^%

I downloaded the EW v2 trial the other day and am so far not experiencing any further unannounced CSS edits of the kind I described in my original post. It's therefore possible that this bug was fixed since v1, which I was running so far.

I'll update this post if the problem returns.
Thanks!
