Updating forms & the DB Editor - 12/16/2001 12:15:43
I just read a file in the MS Assistance Center (http://www.office.microsoft.com/assistance/2002/articles/fpAddFieldsConnect2ExistDB.aspx) that' s got me wondering again about adding/deleting fields to an existing DB. The article says the procedure they give for doing it is not recommended if you' ve created a DB Editor with the Interface Wizard. This, plus all the comments FrontPage adds to editor-related forms saying that the Editor will not work if the form is updated using the Results Wizard, has put doubts in my mind.

I' ve played with this in a test DB I created, adding/deleting/modifying fields in both submission and results forms, then checking to be sure everything was updated everywhere else. You do have to manually update the DB Editor page using the DRW, but all the modified fields are there when you go to do it. You have to do the same manual updates for all related forms in the Editor folder, but again, everything seems in order when you do it.

So... is all this warning just because the Editor won' t work if you don' t manually update it, or do any changes to the DB structure (i.e. fields themselves, not records in the fields) make it non-functional?

Tell me I can modify my DB without fear!!

I havent done it enough to recommend it, but I guess there is no harm in trying and KEEPING BACKUPS if it goes wrong :)

It is best to build from scratch most times.
