IE8 / Compatibility View and CSS menus - 3/17/2009 10:12:20
I've used the CSS menu system demoed by Steve Gibson of GRC fame here for my own site www.intenseco.com. It's worked fine across all browsers until I did some testing with IE8.
Using IE8 on my XP development PC it's fine but on a Windows 7 test machine the second level of the menus fails to display correctly unless the Compatibility Mode is switched on.
What does CM do and can anyone think why it's affecting my menu and what I could do about it?
thanks
Calum

IE8 is still in BETA so not much to do until the final release is out.
The menu developer should provide you with updated code but they might not.
You could force your pages to emulate IE7 with this META tag: <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> if everything works OK in IE7...

Thanks; I'll try that - there's no sign of the code being touched for a few years and I can barely spell CSS, llet alone do anything fancy with it!

That wasn't CSS, that was a meta tag that goes at the top of your HTML code. Use the Code tab and look near the top and in between the <head> tags you should see other Meta tags. If not, that line can go straight after <title>xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx</title>
