Tables (and images) dragged from text-feed - 3/25/2009 16:36:33
Hey people! Been a very long time since I posted here. Nice to be back! Anyhow, I've finally gotten about webdesigning again, and I stumbled upon this problem with Frontpage when using it with Image Ready. When I put text in the middle part (see picture), it pulls on the tables on the left, which are supposed to be top-alligned. I remember having had this problem years ago as well, but can't for the life of me find any threads about it or remember how I fixed it.

How can I top-allign the tables and images to the left so that the middle text-part only drags down the bottom part of the image to the left?

Check out this screenshot;

Well, things have changed while you were gone...
Nobody designs in tables anymore.
Tables are for tabular data.
You really need to use CSS instead.
Barring that, a url might help.
Gotta see the code.

Okay, man, thanks for telling me! I actually found a decent tutorial on how to create CSS with ImageReady, so I'll try that and post back with some code if I need help again. :)

Haha, yeah, that's what I've read, that ImageReady creates some wacky CSS-code. Do you know of any decent websites explaining how to switch from tables to CSS designwise? I was directed to a book on Google, but I can't afford it at the moment.

Or, basically; I need to know how to make the links in the picture, well, links, allign all images to the top of the page, and make the background-strips on both sides the background on those sides, while at the same time opening up the middle part for php-inclusions (text). Is there some easy way to tell me how to do this? :p

Personally I wouldn't use ImageReady to do it. I find I have much more control if you just break up the image using Photoshop then apply it to the background using CSS.

There are some very good tutorials at HTMLDog. Here's the link to the basic CSS one but there are loads off others on there.

Sounds reasonable, yeah. Many thanks for the link! I'll post back with the result (or the problems) later. ;)

I tend to learn by taking things apart and putting them back together again (sometimes in different ways).
Go grab a free CSS site from one of the many open source web sites and then pick it apart. It's both easier AND harder than you think but really fun if you have a passion for this stuff (as all of us here do).
www.csszengarden.com still inspires me - its the same html displayed with many different CSS stylesheets. Some of the layouts really push the envelope.

Wow, cool! I love some of those designs. Thanks for posting. And yeah, picking things apart is a good way of learning how they are built up, I thought about doing it, but didn't really find any cool websites. That site was great though.

Man, awesome, it's great that stuff has developed on this area over the years, finally webdesigns can become interesting without the use of flash. :)
