How to dispose of old laser printer cartridges - 3/31/2009 15:27:34
Is there a special way to dispose of old laserjet cartridges? Or, can I just throw them away?

Google "recycle laserjet cartridges" and you will find some sites that will pay you.

It appears all of ours are generic brands and they do not accept them, so, can I just throw these away?

There must be a better way than tossing them in a landfill to sit "forever" (not to mention that carbon black is a suspected carcinogen). There are some contacts listed on this page that might be helpful.

Problem is I don't think these can be recycled as they are about 11 years old from the old IT guy, so the printer in question is obviously not in production anymore, and no one will take them.

I believe that Staples will pay you $3 for each cartridge you recycle.

Staples will pay for some brands, (HP, Epson). They will also take the brands that they don't pay for and dispose of them. What is not known is what becomes of the brands that they don't take.
In my town if you throw a cartridge in the trash, it will be sitting on the the curb after the garbage man comes...

If we're talking toner cartridges that's one thing but if it's old ink cartridges well I'd be tempted to toss 'em unless I could find a taker quick and easy.
