keywords on Includes pages - 4/1/2009 11:10:35
Since my Includes pages appear on every page of my site and have the keywords in place, should I assume i dont need to go to the other pages and put the meta keywords in place?

Hmmmm - lots of reading between the lines here, but here goes...
1. keywords in the content should be unique for each page since the content should be different on each page
2. keywords in the meta tags aren't used by as many (if any) search engines but it is VERY important to create unique title and description meta tags for each page
3. include pages are used generally for things like menus and headers or footers (where you might want your copyright to appear on every page) and things like database connection code that is repeated. But keywords? Why would you do that?

thought my bucket-o-keywords needed to be on every page in the <meta name="keywords" content>...is that not the case? and thought by putting them on the Includes pages it would be like putting them on all pages in 1 or 2 shots...am i making sense?

Putting the bucket o'keywords in the keyword META tag is fine but mostly useless.
If you put the keywords in the text you are just keyword spamming and Google is more likely to ignore you or lower your rank as do anything else.
Take a look at the official Google guidelines here:
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769
Excerpts:
• Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"
• Don't load pages with irrelevant keywords. "Keyword stuffing" refers to the practice of loading a webpage with keywords in an attempt to manipulate a site's ranking in Google's search results. Filling pages with keywords results in a negative user experience, and can harm your site's ranking. Focus on creating useful, information-rich content that uses keywords appropriately and in context. To fix this problem, review your site for misused keywords. Typically, these will be lists or paragraphs of keywords, often randomly repeated. Check carefully, because keywords can often be in the form of hidden text, or they can be hidden in title tags or alt attributes.

OK, I dont want to take up too much of your time, but all my keywords are relevant to the business and each product and service they offer is complementary of the other. and the content and title on each page is relevant to that page. there are visable hyperlinks on the pages that direct visitors to the related pages for deeper understanding of their processes. Im trying to be sure when someone searches for anything they do, the customers site will appear on google (organically) through the proper use of related keywords and content.

Im going to read the google article, because what I thought was a no-brainer, seems you're saying im doing it wrong.

No--I'm not saying you are doing it wrong at all..I'm just saying your stuffing of the keywords META tag is probably not useful. Your original post made it seem like you were contemplating keyword spamming but your last post cleared that up.
